2021 Goals for the Amazon Rainforest

Image
2021 New Year's Resolutions As we approach the end of 2020, many of us may make the decision to commit to a New Year's resolution or two. This creates the perfect opportunity to choose a resolution that can help protect the Amazon Rainforest. Consider making one of the following as your New Year's resolution to do your part in saving the rainforest! 1. Eat Less Meat One of the things that drives the frequency of deforestation in the rainforest up is cattle ranching. Trees are continuously being removed in order to move cattle in, providing beef for many fast food chains. Choosing to eat less meat, especially beef, in 2021 can help save more of the rainforest from being destroyed as there will be that much less of a demand for meat. 2. Reduce Paper Use Another reason deforestation continues in the rainforest is to produce paper products. By committing to decreasing the amount of paper products you use, more of the trees in the rainforest can continue to grow! 3. Spread the W...

Dance Deforestation Away

Image
On June 21st, 2020, Rainforest Foundation held a virtual concert called SOS Rainforest Live to raise awareness for the indigenous communities of the Amazon Rainforest. These people are currently battling the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, while simultaneously trying to save the forest they call home. Deforestation in the rainforest has been a huge threat to the survival of these people. It may not seem like it, but the Covid-19 pandemic has only made protecting the Amazon Rainforest more difficult. I think it is important to remember that there is a domino effect when it comes to saving the rainforest from deforestation. Without its native people, the rainforest faces an unknown fate. It is important to also keep these people safe and healthy as they continue the fight against deforestation. While I did not have the chance to watch the event live, I have found it very interesting to read and learn about. The Rainforest Foundation was able make this a fun and exciting event for anyone who w...

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! I have created this blog in order to raise awareness of the ongoing deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. Deforestation is a huge issue that puts many of the world's species of animals and plants at risk. Even if it may seem like it does not, the destruction of the Amazon rainforest impacts more than just Brazil and the other South American countries the forest resides in. The Amazon rainforest is responsible for producing 20% of the world's oxygen, so the removal of these trees also affects those of us who are not near it. Putting an end to deforestation in the Amazon is important to me because I think that taking care of our planet and environment is essential not only for us, but for the people who will be here after us. I hope that the creation of this blog will help inform people of what the continued deforestation of the Amazon will do to our planet, and help prove that each of us has the ability to help put an end to deforestation, even just in smal...
